Top 3 Netflix Food Shows
I love getting Netflix recommendations for shows and movies, so I decided to share with you my favourite 3 food centric shows.
I’ve never been a big fan of Masterchef and other competitive shows like that, except of course Great British Baking show (when Mary Berry was part of it.) I’m more into educational meets foodporn but still something casual.
Starting in order, with my favourite:
Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat
This show is by Samin Nosrat, a bubbly and incredibly talented chef and teacher. The show is based on her award winning book: Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat. It focuses on these 4 elements and the relationship they have with food, she travels to different countries for each to explore and cook with other experts. The amount of knowledge she has, and the food made is absolutely worth every second of the show, and you can also find the recipes on her website. Even if it is educational, it’s super casual, non-pretentious and an amazing way to explore food from different cultures and countries as well as learn a little more about the specific components she looks into.
Street Food Asia & South America
This show (at the moment) has two parts: Asia and South America. Each episode focuses on a different country and a specific street food chef. They go into the history of the chef, the food they make (most likely not the most popular dish you’d think of) as well as a bigger picture of the role street food plays into their culture. It’s humble, inspiring, heartfelt,, and obviously, like many other food related shows, full of amazing food.
Somebody Feed Phil
This show is presented by Philip Rosenthal, a writer, producer, actor, turned into food enthusiast? I personally would describe him as a dad travelling the world to eat and drink. Right now there are 3 seasons, where he visits 17 cities. It’s an easy to watch series where you can learn a lot about all types of food that have left a mark on a city, as well as the local eats. It’s funny, laid-back and has some of the best travel and food stills.
There are quite a few more food related shows on Netflix that are good (the chef show, ugly delicious…) but these 3 I feel are my favourite of the bunch and the easiest to watch that also don’t skimp out on culture.
