Current Foodie Favs

I’m a big fan of trying out new products and sharing my favs with others so that they can experience it. Vice versa, I love to know what others are liking so that I can give it a try.

I thought for this post, I should share some products or flavours I’ve been enjoying the past couple of months, so that maybe you can find something new and give it a go.

Olivewood Spatula

This may seem like a boring or random favourite to have, but these spatulas are the best in the world (no exaggeration). My mum and I bought 2 of these spatulas on a trip in Amsterdam almost 7 years ago and ever since we’ve been scouring the web and every shop possible looking to buy more of them. They’re hardy, but most importantly, they don’t leach any flavours, or absorb liquid from anything you’re cooking and they don’t have splinters - unlike the wooden spatulas you find most places. After 7 years of knocking these spatulas on every sort of pot and pan, none of them have any indentation or scuff marks, they’ve only gotten better with time.

Plantains

I have always loved plantains, but at the moment it’s almost an obssesion. I have them every week, and think about eating them almost every day. A lightly ripened plantain, simply fried with a touch of flakey salt and thats all. The sugars are just about present to make the whole thing sweet but not burn too quickly, the outside caramelises nicely and creates a chewier ‘crust’.

ALPRO Vanilla Yoghurt

I was never the biggest fan of eating sweet yoghurt, but for some reason I’ve been craving it lately. This soy'-based vegan yoghurt is not too sweet and perfectly creamy.

Yakult

I feel like everyone will know about this legendary drink. It’s the OG Japanese probiotic drink - a lot like Actimel. Although Yakult is by far superior in every sense - tastes delicious, a little sweet with a some tang, you really won’t know it has health benefits.

Piment d’Espelette

I’ve been trying to find this chilli in the UK for a while, but finally got it when I went back home. It’s unlike most chilli powders available in supermarkets. Piment d’Espelette is a AOP protected product that comes from the region of Espelette in France. It’s a fruity and fresh chilli that smells slightly like a bell pepper, but has savoury, smokiness notes to it. Not usually very hot though, I use it more as a garnish.

Genmaicha Tea

This is one of my favourite teas at the moment. It’s a green tea with roasted rice. It’s nutty, buttery, and savoury. The tea is mellow, very lightly floral, with some grassy notes. It’s a very interesting tea for those who haven’t tries, and is also good as a cold brew. I buy mine loose leaf from a tea shop in Geneva called Tschin Ta Ni - tea specialists.
